Summer Proof Hair Posted by beauty

Here are a few tips and tricks to keep your hair looking fab all summer long!

Work with nature not against it. Embrace your curls or rock your straight tresses. Over styling combined with sun, heat and chlorine can wreck havoc on your hair. Go with what you’ve got. Let your hair air dry whenever possible and keep your showers tepid. (Hot water is not good for your skin either).

If you are curly you need to protect against frizz as well as defining your curls, we suggest: Korres Bamboo Styling Cream for Curly Hair.

If you are straight you need a lightweight serum for shine: Oscar Blandi Olio di Jasmine Hair Serum. It protects against splitting and adds lightweight shine.

Most likely you’ll be exposed to wind, salt and chlorine. Before going into the pool, wet hair first with tap water. Hair will only absorb so much water, so if you go in wet you’ll absorb less chlorine. For salt and wind spray hair with a daily leave-in conditioner. The lightest weight possible. We love Alterna Hemp with Organics Leave In Conditioner.

Protect hair from UV rays. You’re color will last longer, your hair won’t get dried out, and you’ll have less chance for damage. Spray it on a few minutes before going out into the sun, (just like sunscreen). Try: Oscar Blandi Capri Sun Shield Spray, or Quintessence Q-Sunshade Leave In Hair Conditioner and Scalp Protectant SPF 30.

Hair Tip
Let hair air dry to about ½ before you use the blow dryer. It’s less damaging and less drying.

Makeup Tip
If you have dark eyebrows, use a clear brow gel to tame unruly hairs instead of adding extra color with a tinted gel.

Assorted Tip
With summer here sweat tends to make thick foundation look cakey. Use a lighter fluid or even better a tinted moisturizer. Try using a foundation brush to better control how the makeup goes on. A flat brush make foundation look smooth and soft.

Choose the right shampoo for your hair type so every day is a good hair day.

Fine Hair
Your hair tangles easily and heavy moisturizers weigh it down. You should use volumizing hair products. They won’t weigh hair down and the conditioner will help detangle. Avoid hair masks. If your ends are damaged use a serum on the ends only. Always brush your hair before you start to avoid excess tangles.

Try: Alterna Caviar Anti Aging Volume Shampoo and Conditioner Duo. (These won’t weigh hair down, but give it plenty of hydration.) A good serum to seal split ends Oscar Blandi Olio di Jasmine Hair Serum.

Color Treated Hair That Gets Brassy
Use products for color treated hair. They have mild cleansers that don’t strip color but help fight dryness and damage. You may also want to try a color depositing shampoo. These will counteract brassiness.

Try: Molton Brown De Stressing Pandano Hair Wash, and L’Occitane Damaged Hair Conditioner.

Thick Hair
Your hair is usually unruly and may be prone to dryness. You need Protein rich formulas that smooth and tame hair. Try to let hair air dry a little bit before blow-drying. Comb a detangling solution on wet hair with a wide toothed comb.

Try: Alterna Hemp with Organics Straight Shampoo. Try: Molton Brown Shining Starbloom Hair Conditioner and detangler.

Dull Hair
Your hair is lack-luster. You need to use a clarifying shampoo once a week and add shine to make hair look vibrant and healthy. Use a shine enhancing shampoo and conditioner and follow up with a shine serum.

Try: Alterna Life Solutions Clarifying Shampoo. Serum: Oscar Blandi Olio di Jasmine Hair Serum.

Curly Hair
You need products that will smooth frizz and give you lot’s of moisture. Curly hair tends to be dryer than normal hair and because it takes forever to grow it long you need to take good care of your ends. Use a curl cream before drying and a serum to smooth frizz.

Try: Alterna Life Solutions Curls Shampoo and Alterna Life Solutions Curls Conditioner. Korres Bamboo Styling Cream for Curly Hair (It really does what it says “defines and separates curls”).

If you want to straighten your hair try: Oscar Blandi Raffinata Straightening Balm or Alterna Straighten and Style Duo.
