Easy Travel Guide Posted by beauty

image0011.jpg

Traveling for some people can be the most awful experience, with the long waits, nowhere to go, bad food, illness, crankiness etc. Here are some of the best ways to travel more comfortably, and look fabulous no matter what time you land.

Be sure to check online for the newest list of things you cannot put in your carry on.

PREPARATION
First I like to pack sample sizes of my fav products, a stick foundation, and eyeliner. These must be put into a clear plastic bag. Do not bring your favorite Chanel products, just in case they confiscate them. It’s usually not a problem, but only pack stuff that you won’t be upset over if you lose it.

Planes are very dehydrating, so the best way to keep from getting parched is to avoid salty foods, don’t overdose on caffeine, and drink water. You have to buy water after you’ve passed through security, or you’ll lose it. The night before, gently exfoliate face and body. Apply a good lotion to your body, preferably one with shea butter. Apply a hydrating cream mask to our face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Follow up with a water-based hydrating moisturizer on face.

In the morning, cleanse well, apply a good amount of face lotion and thick lip balm.

MAKEUP
Keep it light. Skip foundation. You’ll want to apply moisturizer through the duration of your flight, especially if it’s a long one. Use concealer where you need it and apply neutral eye shadows, skip the liner, or use very little. Skip mascara, and use a tiny bit of Vaseline on the eyelashes. It makes them look thicker and will feed your lashes during your flight. A little cream blush and a hydrating lip color, or tinted lip balm is perfect. Use oil blotting sheets to remove shine.

I like to wear my hair up on the flight so I don’t have to worry about brushing it. (The night before I usually do a hair mask for hydration).

CLOTHING
You’ll want to wear light, loose fitting clothes that breathe. Try to pick something that is wrinkle free and stain repellent. (Remember there are no lids on the coffee cups).

I always wear a comfortable shoe, and when I can, I take my shoes off for the flight.

Bring a light jacket with you, as planes tend to be chilly.

Check online before you fly, what the rules and regulations of carry on items are, this will save time, money and stress.

Beauty Tip January Posted by beauty

Switch up your perfumes every now and then. We become de-sensitized to fragrance over time, and you’ll have to spray more and more to be able to smell it, and that can be way too much.

  • To make your manicure last longer, apply a clear top coat every few days.
  • Use satin gloves at night with lotion to moisturize the hands. Especially in winter.
  • Use a soft toothbrush to exfoliate lips. Always follow with a lip balm.
  • White teeth are essential to beauty. See your dentist regularly and look into whitening treatments.
  • Perk up your skin by using cold peppermint tea as a toner.
  • Using too much eye cream can actually have opposite the desired effects.
  • Always take makeup off before bed. Keep a stock of facial wipes and a travel size moisturizer in your bedside table for those late nights.
  • Use night cream no matter your skin type. Even acne prone skin has a variety of night creams. Most repair and rejuvenation is done at night, so make the most of it.
  • If you wear dark polish, keep it away from the skin, and keep nails short and square.
  • Use sunscreen everyday, even in winter.
  • Don’t forget your neck. Most people are aged worse on their neck and hands because they only treat the face. Take the same care of your neck as you do your face and you will age gracefully.
  • If you are short on time, use multi-purpose products. Try a cleanser that cleans and tones, tinted moisturizers etc.
  • Practice age prevention when you are young, by cleansing, toning, masking, using eye cream and sunscreen.
  • For a quick manicured look, buff nails to a high gloss and apply hand lotion.
  • Apply hand cream and cuticle oil as often as you can. Keep one in your desk, purse and night tables. I even keep lotion at my kitchen sink.
  • To remove polish properly don’t skimp. Use a cotton for each nail, especially if you are removing dark polish. The worse thing is stained nails.
  • If you’ve put on too much fragrance, try to dilute it with water. When in doubt, use soap and water.
  • Build yourself a fragrance wardrobe. That way you will always have a scent to go with each mood, event or outfit. Use fragrance to boost confidence.
  • Exfoliate your body regularly and always use lotion after your shower. Soft, smooth skin is always sexy.
  • Well groomed brows can make you look polished even if you don’t have makeup on.
  • Keep your makeup bag and brushes clean, that way you will always know what you have and avoid getting your stuff contaminated.
  • Drink lots of water and have seasonal facials to keep skin smooth and clear.
  • Use a base coat meant for acrylic when painting false nails to avoid staining.
  • Keep a pumice stone in the shower to keep feet soft and smooth. If it’s convenient you’ll do it.
  • Filing nails square can help reduce ingrowns.
  • Get your brows professionally shaped once and then you can easily maintain them at home.
  • Store nail polish upright to keep it from separating
  • A healthy diet and exercise with a variety of fruits and vegetables will keep skin, hair and nails healthy. If you smoke, you should quit.
  • Vitamin C and Zinc aid in tissue repair.

Your Best Nails Ever Posted by beauty

We shake hands with people, pass items around, do our work on keyboards and phones, we need to have healthy hands. Our feet, well they carry us through life, they need special care too.

It’s easy to take care of your hands feet and nails. You can follow these easy directions in between spa visits, or on your own schedule as many people like DIY beauty.

footsoak.jpg

Here is a thorough mani and pedi procedure which should be done at least every month. (If you are a spa go-er just fill in between visits.)

I know some of you are thinking you don’t have time, so this first procedure is for you “I don’t have time” people, or maintenance in between professional services.

  1. Wash hands and feet thoroughly
  2. Clip or file the nails, but don’t go too short. There should always be some white showing.
  3. Use a nailbrush with soap to scrub and clean under the nails. Try: Tweezerman Pumice Stone With Nail Brush Do not scrub too hard or you can damage the delicate tissue under the nails.
  4. Rinse well and dry thoroughly, paying special attention to in between toes. Improper toe drying can lead to fungus and infections.
  5. Rub a bit of hand lotion into the hands and feet focusing on the cuticles. Try: Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream

Following these steps each time you need to clip or file your nails will keep your hands and feet healthy and clean.

For those beauty buffs like me, I have a really thorough DIY professional mani/pedi instructions on our sister site Enchanted Body.

IF YOU SUFFER FROM FOOT ODOR
Foot odor, it’s moderate or mild is fairly common especially among men. Foot odor is generally caused by improper drying after bathing and footwear that doesn’t breathe (especially work boots). When there is no air movement around the foot, it sweats. The sweat itself is odorless. The odor comes from the germs and bacteria that grow in warm, damp places (in between toes, in socks and shoes). “Normal” foot odor is when the foot smells only after the shoes have been removed at the end of the day, when the shoes smell or if it is mildly noticed when you are in socks.

To keep odor down, use antibacterial insoles in your shoes, always dry feet thoroughly after bathing, and use a deodorizing spray. Doctor Scholl’s makes both insoles and spray.

If you have severe odor you should see your doctor to find out if it is Athlete’s foot or another type of fungus. If you don’t have an infection, just strong odor, your Doctor can prescribe a medicinal cream, spray or deodorant.
